 Deeper analysis on characters

A good story in a film has good character development and throughout the film you grow this emotional connection with them. You can build emotion within the character whether it’s different feelings about them(mad, sad, happy..ect). The characters in a storyline should always make sense with the genre or reasoning of the filmmaking.

For example every character should represent a different meaning and a different personality. With this reasoning you have a better way for the audience to have a deeper connection within the characters. Having character development is extremely important if you want a good storyline, we have all watched movies where the character plays the role so much that we either love it or hate the character. Here are some examples of what our character development will try to represent.

Shrek, puss in boots, donky

Inside Out

How would this help with the characters in your opening?

The films that I put above is a great example of what we want to interpret into our film as the characters shown is an exact example of what we want to do. In the film inside out it shows what goes inside the girls head and how she has different emotions like (sad, disgust, anger, nervous), It gives different personality a which helps the audience relate to the characters and it also helps with the plot line to the story.

So with our film we want to add different personalities to each character and it will include the party guy who’s always down to go out and party, the shy guy who isn’t very social when it comes to talking to people, and also include the smart one which is the character that has the most common sense when it comes to not making sure anything and happens. We believe doing this will allow the audience to connect with the plot line and also help really bring out the meaning of the development of the characters.

 Prop creation

What and Why are props in film so important?

A prop is something that is used on stage or in films to help improve appearances. It can help actors perform their roles more successfully or give a scene a more realistic feel. I feel like having props just gives life to the scene that you're trying to film. They matter so much as they should relate to what the genre you're filming is. It can advance a plot, define a character, or take on a symbolic meaning.

Movie props are used to show a setting and place, they can indicate the time and location of where the scene is taking place. The prop can also tell the audience what the genre is, it's a great way interact with the audience. Props can also define the character as it can connect with the character's personality for example Indiana Jones with his whip and Darth Vader with his lighsaver. A prop plays a major factor in Film. Here are some examples of props in film:

WhAt'S tHe ImPoRtAnCe Of FoNt

What even is font?

A font is a graphical representation of text that may include a different typeface, point size, weight, color, or design. It's a way of catching the eye of someone that is viewing the word or letter, the reason why you may have liked this was the type of font that I used for the title.

The eye is an amazing thing as it connects to the brain to send you waves to see what your eyes can see, your eye attracts everything whether it's good or not. This is why I want to start my title with something that will catch the viewer's eye and also connect with the theme and purpose of the opening. I say this because the different types of designs that you can pick is unlimited but it's the way you view it because different genres will have different style and analytics to the movie that it belongs to.

Fonts in movie openings are incredibly important as it determines what is going to happen or gives a glance at what it's about. A movie's opening is important to the entire production. An attractive design can help to draw the viewer's attention, which is crucial for a film's introduction. Here are some examples of cool movie fonts that I find interesting:

When you see this you just see the word saw and think nothing of it...WRONG! If you actually analyze what is going on you can see how in the title saw the W is presented as a pitchfork, which is usually associated with evil. It is an iconic symbol being used that the devil seems to have this evil thought of pain in hell, this usually includes death and danger. also notice how the color is red because it is usually common in Horror films as it correlates with danger and blood. This plays a huge factor in how people see the title and can clearly see it's a horror movie.

Everyone knows the film Harry Potter but what if you met someone that has never even heard of this amazing film before. some more history behind the font is it is called Cochin and was invented in 1912 as a print font, based on a much older copperplate font invented in 17th century France by Nicolas Cochin. The reason for using this font is because it gives very wizard vibes and the reasoning behind this is to look at the P and how on the bottom it's shaped as a lightning bolt and the very old style type of font. So you would think it has to do with action or a fantasy type of film.

Week 3 Blog

 Costume designing

As we know, costume design impacts how the viewer watches the film. The creativity and minds behind the scene are remarkable as costumes are one of many tools the director has to tell the story. Costumes help build the details of a character's personality to the audience and help actors feel more real and comfortable about their roles. There is so much behind what goes on in the process of costume people. It helps actors to feel emotionally associated with the character they're enjoying by wearing the costume and actually loving playing their role which leads to better acting and better adapting for the actor or actress. Below will be a sketch or a planning sheet of what my group and I are trying to accomplish.

This is why as a group with our opening scene about the whole party/project x theme, we wanted to really bring out our A-game when it comes to what the characters are wearing during the scenes. So I came up with a more chill and casual theme as our opening isn't this fancy flashy type of scene. This is a little sketch of what we want to do with it comes to the costume design. To go greater in-depth the sketch basically explains how the boys will wear primary neutral colors for the shirt so basically including colors like "grey, black, and white", I chose to do primary colors because it's a formal replacing attire as it is soft and calming to the eyes. For the bottoms, I decided to do shorts because I feel like jeans and pants will be a little hot for the characters and don't make sense because at a party you are going to be hot so you always wear shorts.

For the shoes, we thought we could match the color of the shirt in the primary sense, and for the girls were going to stick with the primary color with the top and it could be any type of top they would like, for the bottoms, we decided to go with jeans or what we call leggings as from personal experience that's what 90% of girls wear to parties and they never wear shorts. So we want the opening to relate to our target audience which is why we are putting our experiences into this opening so it could connect with the viewers. For there shoes, they can wear vans or sneakers whatever they think is comfortable. What we want to accomplish here is for the view to not only relate to the costumes they are wearing but the colors also as the color make a massive impact on how ti settles in the eye which is why we're going with very com fortbale smooth colors.

 Location scouting

In our opening, we want to find an atmosphere or setting based on the script we wrote and the idea we are trying to produce. So what we want to do is we thought why not do it in a house in a community because most teenagers that go to parties are hosted by house parties. So it will make sense to film our opening at a house in a gated community. Also, the reasoning on why we did want to pick this specific location is because the whole point of adding the part of the phone call from the parents is to scare the characters and to clean up the whole place, to then leaving with a cliffhanger with wonder to the audience whether or not they found anything or did they get caught.

The house of the party

Prop/Set Design

Considering it's a party we want to make it look like a party. so the set design we are going to go with is a set with a bunch of different colored lights and how we're going to do that is by using led lights that you can stick on your wall, this will create dark lighting but also a smooth color transition to see the light reflect off the house. We will also show shots of props around the whole house, for example, when the credits show we are going to show red cups, snacks, and confetti. We want to add lasers and all these mechanics to help really bring out the party. We want the props to symbolize the point of the opening as it will show the audience what is going on in the house, with the mix of the bright colors from the led lights and the props being shown around the house. I believe it will be the perfect mix to really show what we want to produce.

This is a visual example of what we're trying to produce during the party.

Blog post week 2

 Target Audience

Our target audience will most likely interest the reach of teenagers as out opening is about 2 kids throwing the biggest party ever while one of them accidently falls asleep and wakes up to such a mess of a house while they receive a call that there parents are on there way. So they have to clean the house as fast as possible to make sure there parents don't find or suspect a thing. We wanted to do a project x kind of theme which is a movie based on a true story where the party just went outrageous and things didn't go to plan. I feel like the reasoning on why we will target so many teenagers is because it relates to them as most teenagers will relate to the film because they have been in that situation before

Story board

For our storyboard is a deeper explanation of our opening, but to explain what's going on in the storyboard is the story starts off with a camera that we will most likely use time lapse to make it seem like the camera is traveling fast. So we want to start off with an establishing shot to show the audience where the shot is taking place, then the camera will travel to the characters of the story which we will do still shots which will freeze the frame to show the characters with there name next to it. The camera will then just show clips of the party then switch to the main character's face which will be a close up shot and it will show him falling down on the couch to sleep. We will transition in where we keep the same shot of the shot where he slept but the difference is it will be daylight out.

Before we show the characters waking up we want to do close up shots of the props around the house that will include red cups, snacks on the ground, random people sleeping on the floor, ect. While the shots show the props around we want to then play music while rolling the credits because we thought it will be a great fit as it transitions smooth to show what happend the next morning and what is going to happen next. The camera will then transition to  the main character getting a phone call from his mom sayin "Hey honey we will be home soon, can't wait to see you". We want to do a two-shot of both the characters cleaning the house up but also do an edit of a split scene of the parents coming home but the kids cleaning up. After that the kids will be sitting down on the coach when the parents walk in and the house is spot clean.

Types of shots we want to do

In our opening for our movie we want to add shots that will make sense so what we want to do is add shots that will smooth into transition of the opening. For example, to introduce the house of where we’re gonna film we want to do a a establishing shot and then we want to try something new so we are going to introduce the still shot to introduce the characters because it will be a cool thing to add. We also wanted to close up shots in more important events in the opening so that the audience can see the characters facial expressions. We also want to include edits like split screen tpo show the viewer the parents getting home and the 2 kids cleaning the house up.

Blog week 2

 Genre

Our group did a facetime and we best thought that would fit will be action/adventure considering that our opening is filled with excitement and twist and turns. The meaning behind the genre is featuring characters involved in exciting and usually dangerous activities and adventures. The plot continues into an adventure that takes the characters on a personal journey or to different geographical locations. For example, the James Bond series includes an adventure/action mash as it has many exciting sights and viewings.

Some examples include Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, The Lost Hero by Dan, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Cause according to "Malatesta, M. (2019, May 19). Action adventure genre - complete list of book genres. Retrieved February 15, 2023", it gives perfect examples of how the genre can connect to our story. We want our story to be exciting which is a huge part on why we as a group picked this specific genre because we are very fund outgoing people and we feel if we put all that same energy into this opening, it will turn out to be the best work ee have done together as a group.

Week one blog

 Blog week 1

Transitioning into this portfolio will be very nice considering that my group with Juan, Enrique, and Javier are all very creative people. We always come up with unique ideas to help better our project. Our plan with this project is to create an opening where we have many focus shots and we want to create a space where we have a relationship to and can relate to the idea. So what we want to do is add a cliffhanger at the end of the opening also to help the audience create interest in what's going to happen next. We want this project to be as creative and professional as possible as we have many creative ideas coming into this opening.

Our approach to the project is to shoot an opening where it opens the eyes of the audience so we wanted a name that will fit perfectly with the opening scene. The name I came up with was 'The night before'. I came up with this name as our opening will contain a big party at night at Juan's house and it will be a close-up shot of Juan's face as the audience will see blurry shots relating to Juan being dizzy and messed up.  Juan will then walk to the couch as he falls down with the camera tracking his face as he falls down to sleep on the couch. We want to start music playing as the camera has focus shots of the props around the house the morning after the party.

While we do the shots of the props and the cups, snacks all over the floor, and random people sleeping across the house we wanted to then start the credits because we feel like it will be the perfect fit as the audience will see the house trashed and see the credits at the same time. The point of the opening is you see Juan and Javier who are brothers in this opening and they get a call from mom that they're on their way home from vacation. The 2 characters then quickly get the house cleaned as fast as possible. We want to add parallel editing with 2 shots of the 2 brothers cleansing up and mom and dad getting home while pulling up to the driveway. As soon as the parents come in the house is spot clean and no dirt in sight. But when the dad grabs his cameras he finds all the pictures from the party and the opening ends with the dad saying "What the..."

 Wild Roots

During the project within our research, we wanted to put information in our case study that would help better understand our band and the message we were trying to send. Using our marketing information, we analyzed the marketing strategies and how they engage the audiences of the most famous music labels. As we planned and brainstormed, we were thinking of how to use this love song to reach out to people and change the world simultaneously. That is why we came to the mutual agreement that we wanted to base our band around helping nature.

Story Board

So we thought, in the music video you see the man beat his wife and treat her like trash and then the main character comes in to treat her with kindness and respect. So we compared it to instead of treating nature and the world like trash even if it's by throwing trash on the ground but instead be like the main character that helps society and helps nature grow. To intertwine our idea with our production, we used eco-friendly clothing and instruments in our music video to promote our message.

During the production of our presentation, I was the one that created all the slides including the website and the logo with the merch. Using websites like go daddy, and designers for the merch. I in the slides explained the specific strategies that we’re going to use and how we're gonna help market our band to help fulfill its full potential. I wanted to create this presentation in a way where it shows why and what this band is about. I wanted to make ti look neat and understandable because we want to help spread awareness of our message as much as possible.

I discovered that the most crucial aspect of this project was working as a team during the entire process. The Snapchat group chat we used to communicate was essential. Here, we set up meetings and discussed the project with each other outside of the classroom. Each person did their part, and everything was done well. Working as a team to complete a sizable project is one skill that will come in very handy for me when I complete the Cambridge portfolio. The largest job we have completed thus far and the largest project of the year are both approaching. This project taught us improved time management techniques and how to develop all the project-related abilities, such as editing,
